In 1981 Dr. John Drake, a board certified orthopaedic surgeon, founded Bienville Orthopaedic Specialists on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Since that time Bienville Orthopaedics has a history of excellence with renowned physicians and has grown into the largest orthopaedic group in the state of Mississippi. On December 12th, 2014 community leaders accompanied the team from Bienville Orthopaedic Specialists to break ground at their, soon to be, new location on Highway 57 in Gautier, MS.
Dr. Drake is quite proud of what the future holds for Bienville Orthopaedic Specialists, stating that, “We have a 33 year history of providing patient-oriented high quality orthopaedic care in Jackson and Harrison County. With this centrally located new office, we hope to provide greater access for more residents of south Mississippi. With our many subspecialty trained orthopaedic surgeons, we look forward to helping patients with a wide range of musculoskeletal problems.”
“We’ re excited for Bienville Orthopaedic Specialists and Mississippians who will now have better access to world-class orthopaedic healthcare facilities. This medical campus is impressive and yet only the first phase for the medical corridor and slated healthcare zone,” said Mayor Gordon Gollott. “It didn’t happen overnight. Vision is reality thanks to Bienville’s top notch physicians, CEO Dean Thigpen, project manager Christian Dose and Gautier’s state acclaimed economic developer Chandra Nicholson and team.”
According to Dean Thigpen, CEO for Bienville, the new, state of the art 48,000 square foot medical office building is phase one of the project and will be located at 6300 Allen Road; the intersection of I-10 and Hwy 57. The facility will encompass physicians from Bienville Orthopaedic Specialists, Encore Rehabilitation and Deaconess Home Health. The groundbreaking ceremony kicked off construction for Fletcher Construction and the estimated completion date is May 1,2016.
