Biography

Though I grew up in Kansas, I spent nearly all of my summers with my grandparents in Huntsville, Alabama. Eventually, my family made the transition to Alabama to help care for my grandmother when I was in high school. My grandmother struggled with heart issues, type 2 diabetes, and various other medical problems. I went with her to many of her doctor’s appointments and after she had a below the knee amputation due to non-healing ulcers on her foot, she needed more help and care. These experiences sparked my interest in the medical field, and it was at this early age that I decided I wanted to be a doctor.

Being 6 feet 7 inches tall, playing basketball was an easy choice and something I devoted a lot of time to in high school. I decided to attend Berry College in Rome, Georgia on an athletic scholarship. I continued my studies and was accepted to attend the University of Alabama School of Medicine in Birmingham for medical school. I had many interests throughout medical school, but I was always drawn to the surgical specialties. My participation in sports and interest in the musculoskeletal system pulled me toward orthopedic surgery.

In July of 2012 I started my orthopedic surgery residency at the University of South Alabama in Mobile. For five years, I spent time developing my skills and education on trauma, pediatrics, sports, joint arthroplasty, hand, spine, and foot and ankle. Whether it was the guidance of my foot and ankle mentors or my experiences with my own grandmother’s foot and ankle ailments, I decided to pursue additional training with a foot and ankle fellowship.

And yet, picking my career path was only the second greatest decision I made during residency. In May 2015, my wife, Brittany, and I were married in Orange Beach, Alabama. Once I had finished residency, we moved to Vail, Colorado for me to start my foot and ankle fellowship at the world-renowned Steadman Clinic.

After a year in Vail, we moved to Ocean Springs, MS to start our new life and job at Bienville Orthopaedic Specialists. In October 2018, we welcomed our daughter, Abigail, into the world and she has been the biggest blessing to us both. My interests include playing basketball, watching movies, enjoying Gulf Coast seafood and spending time with my family near the beach on the weekends.

My interests within foot and ankle are sports injuries, tendon and ligament injuries, foot and ankle arthritis, ankle replacement, foot and ankle traumatic injuries, reconstruction, bunions, toe deformities. I am a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS), the Mississippi Orthopaedic Society (MOS), and Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA). I currently have clinic four days a week at Bienville Orthopaedic Specialists in East Lake in Vancleave, MS.
