Biography

Thomas Lucak, MD is a fellowship-trained orthopaedic surgeon specializing in hand, wrist, and elbow surgery. After completing subspecialty training in hand and upper extremity surgery, Dr. Lucak joined Bienville Orthopaedic Specialists in 2020. Dr. Lucak provides both surgical and nonsurgical treatment to improve function and reduce pain. His practice interests include but are not limited to the following: hand and wrist trauma, hand and wrist arthritis, Dupuytren’s contracture, nerve repair and reconstruction, nerve decompressions (e.g. cubital tunnel release and endoscopic carpal tunnel release), as well as the treatment of upper extremity tendon and ligament injuries.

Dr. Lucak graduated summa cum laude from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee majoring in molecular and cellular biology. Dr. Lucak was awarded a scholarship to attend medical school and earned his medical degree from the University of Central Florida College of Medicine in Orlando, Florida. He completed his residency training in orthopaedic surgery at the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans, Louisiana. While training at LSU, Dr. Lucak had the privilege to assist on the sidelines with providing orthopaedic care to the 2016 LSU Tigers football team. Additionally during his training, Dr. Lucak published multiple research papers, and presented his work at state, regional, and national orthopaedic meetings. He received several awards during his time at LSU including the Andrew G. S. King, MD Teaching Award given to the best senior resident educator as well as the award for the highest in-training exam scores of the graduating class. During his final year of residency, Dr. Lucak was selected to travel abroad to serve on a medical mission trip to Ecuador. After graduation, Dr. Lucak completed an additional year of subspecialty training in hand and upper extremity surgery at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. While in fellowship, he received focused training in the management of pediatric hand trauma at the world-renowned Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children.

Outside of work, Dr. Lucak enjoys traveling, fishing, and spending time with his wife.
